Business establishments from Misamis Occidental topped the Department of Trade and Industry Region X (DTI-X) Bagwis Awards for 2015, garnering 5 silver and 5 bronze citations during the awarding rites held 28 October at a local hotel.
According to DTI-X Regional Director Linda O. Boniao, the Bagwis Awards aim to recognize establishments that sell only quality products which comply with all trade and industry laws, encourage them to establish “consumer welfare desks” and recognize their efforts in maintaining quality and environmental systems.
The Bagwis Awards cover all business establishments nationwide which fall under the following categories: Category 1 (Supermarkets), Category 2 (Department Stores), Category 3 (Appliance Centers), Category 4 (Hardware Stores), and Category 5 (DTI Accredited Service and Repair Shops).
A total of 22 establishments in Region 10 were awarded the Bagwis
The occasion also marked the first time that Bagwis Awards were awarded for LPG Distributors which coincidentally accounted for all 5 Silver Bagwis Awardees from Misamis Oriental.
Lanao del Norte and Bukidnon which both had 3 bronze ranked next, while Camiguin had one bronze awardee.
“Awardees at all levels will be recognized with the publication of their names in local media, special mention during information campaigns and the distribution of their names to their respective affiliated associations, “ said Atty. Fel Lester G. Brillantes, chief of DTI-X’s Consumer Welfare Division.
Bagwis Silver Awardees from Misamis Occidental included D’Dales Shopping Center (Oroquieta City), Emcor Inc. (Tangub City), Bob’s Construction Supply (Tangub City), Princity, Inc. (Prince Hypermart Oroquieta), and New Family Traders (North Poblacion, Calamba).
Bagwis Silver Awardees from Misamis Oriental were Juan Sia Enterprises (Cagayan de Oro City), Grancia Trading (Cagayan de Oro Trading), and three branches of Grancia Marketing (Barra, Opol; Pacana St., Cagayan de Oro and Osmeña St., Cagayan de Oro City).
Meantime, Bagwis Bronze Awardees from Bukidnon were CDO2 Cycles Marketing (Valencia City), Fabulous Jeans & Shirts & General Merchandise (Valencia City), Metro Gold Supermart, Inc. (Valencia City) while recognized in the same category from Lanao del Norte were Ji & Je’s General Merchandise (Maranding, Lala), Mtzia Corporation (Pala-o & Villaverde, Iligan City).
The lone bronze awardee from Camiguin was DL Bonita Merchandising-Catarman Branch (Poblacion, Catarman).
The Certification Committee may still cancel or revoke the Bagwis seal if the awardee is found to have sold or kept an inventory of uncertified products covered by mandatory certification such as electrical products or fire extinguishers; sold pirated products or failed to comply with applicable fair trade laws.
“The cancellation and removal of the seal from the establishment shall only be lifted after the outlet has done corrective measures within one (1) year from the cancellation or removal of the seal,” Brillantes said. (RMB)
