DTI Misamis Occidental cites tripartite collaboration as key to success

The Department of Trade and Industry in Misamis Occidental attained key milestones in 2015 thanks to the cooperation and support of its partners in local government and the private sector.

At the sidelines of the annual media briefing for 2015 Accomplishments of Region 10 held December 11, 2015 at a hotel in Cagayan de Oro, DTI Misamis Occidental Officer-in-Charge Ms. Jane Marie L. Tabucan cited the major accomplishments of the province done with the cooperation of the local government units and private sector partners.

“We accomplished more than we targeted for primarily because of a strong collaboration with our private sector partners,” Ms.Tabucan noted. “For instance, two Negosyo Centers (NCs) were inaugurated last June 30, 2015 at the Business Assistance Center Building within the Ozamiz City Hall compound and another in the capital city of Oroquieta strategically located adjacent to the DTI Provincial Office.

The NCs are charged with promoting ease of doing business and facilitating access to services for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within their respective jurisdictions.  NCs provide services such as Business Registration, Business Advisory, Business Information and Advocacy, and Monitoring and Evaluation.

The office also marked another milestone with the Shared Services Facilities (SSF) project of which 13 are already operating and an additional 16 established benefitting their co-operator MSMEs in increasing their production capacities and expand their respective markets.

In another milestone, the province also conducted 25 trainings/seminars under its SME Roving Academy (SMERA) in cities of Ozamiz and Oroquieta, and the towns of Clarin, Sinacaban, Jimenez and Calamba, way over the 20 trainings/seminars targeted for the year province-wide.

The SMERA is a continuous learning program for micro, small and medium enterprises to constantly improve their competitiveness in the domestic and international markets.

Not the least, Misamis Occidental province again topped the DTI-Bagwis Awards for 2015 for the second straight year with 10 awardees, highest among the five provinces of Northern Mindanao.

The province had five silver awardees and five bronze awardees, which were recognized at the annual DTI-X Bagwis Awards held October 28, 2015 in Cagayan de Oro City.

Bagwis 2015 Silver Awardees from Misamis Occidental included Bob’s Construction Supply (Tangub City), D’Dales Shopping Center (Oroquieta City), Emcor Inc. (Tangub City), New Family Traders (Calamba), and Princity, Inc. (Prince Hypermart Oroquieta).

Bronze Awardees included Highway Construction & General Merchandise (Aloran) J Marketing Corporation (Ozamiz City) Jo-Mary Construction Supply & Lumber (Jimenez), New El Franco Commercial (Jimenez), and Seclot General Merchandise, Inc. (Tangub City).

According to DTI-X Regional Director Linda O. Boniao, the Bagwis Awards aim to recognize establishments that sell only quality products which comply with all trade and industry laws, encourage them to establish “consumer welfare desks” and recognize their efforts in maintaining quality and environmental systems.

The Bagwis Awards cover all business establishments nationwide which fall under the following categories: Category 1 (Supermarkets), Category 2 (Department Stores), Category 3 (Appliance Centers), Category 4 (Hardware Stores), and Category 5 (DTI Accredited Service and Repair Shops).
