Mayor Oscar S. Moreno leads six panelists from Cagayan de Oro City who will share their expertise in the Philippines’ biggest international conference on urban development scheduled for July 12-13, 2016 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, Pasay City.
The 2016 International Conference on Urban Development: Accelerating Resilience and Inclusive Growth aims to foster multi-disciplinary discussions, create a network of partnerships and build information that will promote public and private sector collaboration in achieving livable, safe and economically vibrant urban centers in the Philippine’s emerging secondary cities.
The two-day conference will gather 40 international and local experts, business leaders, change makers from the national and local governments, representatives from donor agencies and professional organizations, as well as students of urban development who will have the opportunity to share innovative ideas.
The conference will have dynamic plenary sessions, panel discussions and workshops. It will also provide a valuable forum for building professional networks and aiding newly-elected government officials form linkages that will help realize their cities’ potential.
Mayor Moreno is one of the panelists for the Panel Discussion on Urbanization Issues to be moderated byMalou Tiquia, Founder, Publicus Asia Inc. and former Host: Agenda, CNN Philippines. He will be joined by other distinguished panelists including Prof. Charles Landry, the conference keynote speaker, a renowned international authority on the use of imagination and creativity in urban change; Jesus Atencio, CEO, 8990 Development Corporation and Guillermo Luz, Co-Chair, National Competitiveness Council Private Sector
Another distinguished Kagay-anon who is joining the conference is Christopher Rollo, Country Programme Manager of UN-Habitat Philippines who will speak on the Road to Habitat 3.

The other local panelists joining Mayor Moreno in the conference include Mr. Jaime Rafael Paguio, SVP, CEPALCO and Former President, Oro Chamber and Promote-CDO who will join the panel discussion on Improving Business Climate for Investments moderated by Ofelia Templo, Deputy Chief of Party, USAID|SURGE Project. Joining Paguio in the same panel is Sandra Choi, Development Analyst/Global Markets of the Department of Development of the City of Norfolk, a sister city of Cagayan de Oro.
Later the same afternoon, Engr. Alex L. Maureal, Project Manager, Building Permit Management System (eBPMS), Cagayan de Oro City joins the panel on Technological Solutions for Urban Developmentmoderated by Mamerto Tangonan, Chief of Party, USAID|E-PESO Project.
The following day, Mr. Raoul Geollegue, Senior Technical Consultant of Relief International-Enterprise Works Worldwide Phils. Inc. is a panelist on the Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction moderated by EnP. Leonora Gonzales, Ph. D, DENR Consultant on Climate Change.
Later the same day, Local Economic & Investment Promotion Officer Eileen E. San Juan joins the panel onPromoting Local Economic Development moderated by EnP. Dina Magnaye, Ph.D, Professor, UP -School of Urban and Regional Planning.
Not the least, Dr. Dixon Yasay, Head of Xavier University’s Governance Leadership Institute and Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) President Ricardo E. Rotoras, D’Eng. Joins the panel forPromoting Innovation through Human Capital Development moderated by Dr. Richard Abendan, Ph.D, USAID|STRIDE Project.
The conference concludes with plenary sessions on the Solutions to City Problems and Taking up the Challenge of Urbanization.
