El Circulo Zamboangueño marked its 60th anniversary of celebrating Fiesta Pilar in Cagayan de Oro with a mass and cena communal at La Ilongga Restaurant last 12 October 2016.
Manny Aliñabon, the perennial host for the Fiesta Pilar, said the traditional nine-day novena for Nuestra Señora Virgen del Pilar de Zaragoza, the city’s patron saint, started October 3 at La Ilongga Restaurant and was hosted by different families for the duration.
El Circulo Zamboangueño is the association of families originating from “Asia’s Latin City” of Zamboanga. Every October for the past 60 years, El Circulo has unfailingly celebrated the Feast Day of Zamboanga’s Patroness, our Lady of the Pillar with the traditional nine-day novena and mass on October 12.
Besides the annual Fiesta Pilar, El Circulo also undertakes charity works such as the benefit show of the award winning film ILO ILO held last November 13, 2014 at SM CDO Cinema for the benefit of the Zamboanga siege victims. Proceeds of the show were later turned over to Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco during her visit to Cagayan de Oro last 2015.
