Kagay-anon Performing Arts interpret Mindanao culture through dance
Last Monday, 05 January the Department of Tourism Region X launched 2015 as “Visit the Philippines Year” (VPY) in Northern Mindanao at the Activity Center of upscale Centrio Mall in Cagayan de Oro City.
DOT X Reg. Dir. Butch Chan said the regional launch is a response to DOT Sec. Ramon Jimenez, Jr.’s directive to bring tourism to the regions and urge people to visit other places such as Northern Mindanao, citing the importance of LGU initiatives to promote tourism in their respective localities.
The new campaign will refresh “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” to sustain the original campaign. Check out DOT’s microsite (http://phl2015.
VYP 2105 will stress five main themes for 2015: 1) history and culture, 2) music and arts, 3) lifestyle and entertainment, 4) business meetings, and 5) sports, adventure, and eco-tourism.
Next, “Big Bite Northern Mindanao Food Festival”, the region’s biggest food festival kicks off today with Misamis Oriental’s Kuyamis Festival at the same venue. This will be followed up on Saturday, 10 Jan. by Green Bukidnon, Food Basket of Mindanao and The Bounty of the Sea on Sunday, 11 January highlighting the foods and dishes of Camiguin, Iligan and Misamis Occidental.

Big Tent goes up for Big Bite Northern Mindanao Food Festival
To encourage more visitors, Ayala Malls is bringing in guest celebrity chefs Marvin Agustin on January 10 and Boy Logro and Jeric Gonzales on January 11.
Centrio shoppers are invited to join the festivities and get a chance to win a golden raffle to the Big Buffet to be held every night from January 9-11 at the Centrio Gardens. Only 80 shoppers a day will be randomly chosen so come early or come late but make sure you are visible! Look out for the Centrio Marketing officers to get your golden raffle!

Meantime, the adjacent Seda Centrio is right in the thick of things this same week. Today, Cagayan de Oro’s acknowledged Urban Lifestyle Hotel sponsors the Fiesta Mass at the Church of the Black Nazarene just across the street. Toto Salcedo, president of the Hijos/Hijas del Nazareno expects anywhere from 400-450 thousand devotees to clog the city streets today to attend the Feast of the Black Nazarene, fast becoming a major pilgrimage tourism event in the region.
Meantime, just across the street Seda Centrio Executive Chef Jerry Montenegro Cruz will be a judge at the Quick Fire Culinary Competition of the Big Bite Food Festival which starts 11am at Centrio Mall Activity Center.
Next day, Chef Jerry will conduct a food preparation/demonstration for a seafood dish at the Centrio Mall Activity Center. Meantime, Seda Centrio will conduct a food tasting and flyering at Activity Center to showcase the special food promotions of Misto, Seda Centrio’s restaurant.
